You Wouldn't Want to Hitch on Hitchens' Ride

"The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God'" (Ps. 14:1).

I can't help but pity Christopher Hitchens. For all his literary prowess and seemingly capacious mind, on the one thing that ultimately matters, he is the dumbest of the dumb. I say this with all compassion.

Observe how he has degenerated from this breast-thumping, full-of-bravado, icon of bohemianism to a cancer-ravaged, emaciated, seemingly meek, though still eloquent, shell of his former self.

No, suffering and affliction are not the Gospel. For a heart untouched by the Spirit of God, cancer will not "do the trick," so to speak.

We don't know how things will eventually end for Hitchens, but one thing is certain, "God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap" (Gal. 6:7).

  1. Have you seen the debate between Hitchens and Douglas Wilson? Are you ever gonna post that on your blog?

  2. Nope, haven't seen it. And why should I post it on my blog?

  3. If you're implying that I'm not doing justice to Hitchens' brilliance by this post of mine than you must've missed the part where I refer to his "literary prowess and seemingly capacious mind."

  4. Hey, relax. That was an honest question. No need to get yourself all worked up.

The reason I pointed that out is that Hitchens is known in the Reformed community as the atheist that Doug Wilson debated. Go look it up on youtube. There's also a DVD titled Collision.

  5. My bad, bro. I'll go check that out.

  6. Wow, I did not even recognize Hitchens. Though, ironically enough, he looks younger. As far as dumbness goes, we should all heed this warning from 2 Peter 2:12 (spoken not of atheists per se, but of those false teachers in the Christian community who think themselves wise):

"But these, like unreasoning animals, born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, reviling where they have no knowledge, will in the destruction of those creatures also be destroyed"

My prayers will be lifted up for the man. I hope he repents. The disease has apparently humbled him.

  7. And Doug Wilson is known as the heretic that keeps pushing Federal Vision.
