Let it be indelibly carved in your heart and mind, especially for the occasions when indwelling sin robs you of peace and joy, that "his steadfast love endures forever".
Psalm 136
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
4 to him who alone does great wonders,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
5 to him who by understanding made the heavens,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
6 to him who spread out the earth above the waters,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
7 to him who made the great lights,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
8 the sun to rule over the day,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
9 the moon and stars to rule over the night,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
11 and brought Israel out from among them,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
12 with a strong hand and an outstretched arm,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
13 to him who divided the Red Sea in two,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
14 and made Israel pass through the midst of it,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
15 but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
16 to him who led his people through the wilderness,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
17 to him who struck down great kings,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
18 and killed mighty kings,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
19 Sihon, king of the Amorites,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
20 and Og, king of Bashan,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
21 and gave their land as a heritage,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
22 a heritage to Israel his servant,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
23 It is he who remembered us in our low estate,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
24 and rescued us from our foes,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
25 he who gives food to all flesh,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
26 Give thanks to the God of heaven,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Such a great psalm - the repetition is there for emphasis! Occasionally we use this passage as a responsive reading in our worship service.
ReplyDeleteIt was the repetition that moved me, bro. It was as if God wanted His children to not miss the fact that He is faithful and will never leave nor forsake them, on account of what Christ has earned through His life, death, and resurrection.
ReplyDeleteThe Psalms are rich in life-changing truth. No wonder the Lord Jesus Christ quoted from them often.
Just wanted to check on you brother. I haven't seen a new post in over 5 weeks! Praying for you because we are all going through spiritual war.
ReplyDeletePs 136 can stay up as long as you want... it is a wonderfully buoying, foot-planting truth that the LORD's steadfast love endures forever.
ReplyDeleteSimilarly to EE, I have been praying for you as I check in regularly. God is also faithful and perfect in all His ways, keep clinging and running and fighting and hiding... soon and very soon, we're going to see the KING!
Blessings to you in Christ our Lord
Eddie and Tim,
ReplyDeleteMy brothers in Christ, thank you for the edification and encouragement that your concern for me brings. In fact, I have been feeling guilty for not having put up a new post in weeks. The lag is due mainly to my work, which leaves me wanting in energy. I will strive in the strength of the Lord to post at least once a week.
May the Lord refresh you, brothers, as you have been a refreshment to me.
That's good news brother! I think once a week is necessary to maintain and increase your followers on this blog. I know in my move to Kuwait I wasn't able to post for a while and the viewers dropped considerably. Look at this as part of your ministry and make it a minimum to post at least once a week. Glad to hear you are doing okay.
ReplyDeleteI'll heed your words, Eddie.
